Frequently Asked Questions
Products
What ingredients do you use in your candles?
Our candles are made with 100% soy wax and high-quality fragrance oils. Each candle is hand-poured in small batches to ensure a clean, long-lasting burn you can enjoy in your home.
Are your candles safe to use around pets?
Our candles are made with soy wax and phthalate-free fragrance oils, making them a great choice for everyday home use. As with any candle, we recommend burning in a well-ventilated space and keeping them out of reach of pets.
Do your products contain any harmful ingredients?
No — we avoid unnecessary additives and use vegan, phthalate-free fragrance oils. Our candles are also paraben-free and never tested on animals.
Are your products eco-conscious?
Yes! Soy wax is a renewable, biodegradable resource, and many of our vessels are designed to be reused or returned. We focus on small-batch production to minimize waste wherever possible.
Can candle jars be reused once they’re finished?
Absolutely! Once the candle is fully burned and cleaned, jars can be reused for storage, décor, or organization. We love giving our vessels a second life.
Why can’t I find a specific candle online or in store?
Many of our candles are poured in limited batches, so some scents may sell out or rotate seasonally. If you’re looking for something specific, reach out — we’re always happy to check for you.
Candle Care & Safety
How long do your candles burn?
Our 8-oz candles have a burn time of approximately 40–50 hours.
What is tunnelling and how can I prevent it?
Tunnelling happens when wax melts unevenly. To avoid this, burn your candle for at least 4 hours the first time you light it so the wax melts evenly across the surface.
What’s the recommended first burn time?
For best results, allow your candle to burn for about four hours the first time it’s lit. This helps establish an even melt pool, setting the candle up for a smooth, consistent burn and reducing the risk of tunnelling.
How often should I trim my wick?
Trim your wick to 1/4 inch before every single burn. This is the single most important thing you can do to extend your candle’s life, prevent mushrooming, and get a clean, steady flame.
Why use a snuffer instead of blowing out my candle?
Blowing out a candle can send hot wax flying, leave a smoke trail, and disturb the fragrance. A snuffer gently smothers the flame, preserving your scent and keeping the wax pool clean for the next burn.
Candle Accessories
Will candle accessories work with any candle?
Yes — our accessories are designed to work with standard candle jar sizes and are compatible with most candles on the market, including all Rooted Western candles.
Do candle accessories make a good gift?
Absolutely. A candle care set paired with one of our candles makes a thoughtful, practical gift for any occasion. Consider bundling a wick trimmer, snuffer, and your favourite scent for a complete candle experience.
Home Decor
Are these real preserved botanicals?
Yes — our preserved florals and eucalyptus are real botanicals that have been treated to maintain their natural look, texture, and colour without water or sunlight. They're not dried or artificial.
How long will preserved botanicals last?
With proper care — kept away from direct sunlight and humidity — preserved botanicals typically last 1–3 years. Natural wood pieces like garlands and chain links are durable and will last indefinitely with basic care.
Do home decor pieces pair well with Rooted Western candles?
That's exactly what they were chosen for. The warm, natural tones of our botanicals and wood accents complement the earthy, western palette of our candles beautifully. Style them together on a shelf, mantle, or table for a cohesive, intentional look.
