Candle Care & Safety

We want you to enjoy your candles beautifully and safely. To help prevent accidents and minimise risks, please follow these important tips every time you burn a candle.

🔥 Placement & Setup

  • Always set candles on a firm, heat-resistant surface that won’t tip over.
  • Use holders that are sturdy and will not burn, tip, or break — avoid wooden or plastic holders.
  • Make sure the candle is placed away from curtains, décor, clothing, and anything that could catch fire.

👀 While the Candle Is Burning

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Stay in the room while your candle is lit — always extinguish it before you leave the room or go to sleep.
  • Avoid dropping objects like matches into the candle wax.

🕯 Wick & Wax Care

  • Trim the wick before lighting to help reduce soot and uneven burning. (While Health Canada doesn’t prescribe a specific trim length, trimming helps improve burn quality.)
  • Allow the wax to melt across the entire top edge during the first burn to prevent tunnelling and extend candle life.

🔥 Safety & Fire Prevention

  • Do not burn candles near drafts, vents, or air currents — this can cause uneven burning and increased fire risk.
  • Avoid burning candles in enclosed spaces without ventilation.
  • Never use candles that contain lead-cored wicks — these are prohibited in Canada and can pose safety risks.

🧯 Extinguishing & End of Life

  • Use a snuffer or gentle breath to extinguish the flame.
  • Let the wax cool completely before touching or moving the candle.
  • Discontinue burning when only about a small layer of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

🚫 Avoid These Hazards

  • Candles should not be burned where flammable fumes or materials are present.
  • Do not toss partially used candles into waste where they could continue burning and start a fire.

✨ Enjoyment Tips

To maximise both safety and your candle’s performance:

  • Keep candle burns to moderate lengths (a few hours at a time)
  • Place them in well-ventilated areas
  • Always monitor candle use when guests, children, or pets are nearby
